Facebook announced last Friday that they are working to limit the amount of fake news being distributed on Facebook. Facebook has been widely criticized for being a conduit for fake news from untrusted sources. Reacting to this criticism, Facebook has made changes to their news feed algorithm, limiting news feeds from less trusted sources, where trust is determined through surveys of it users. While the problem of trusted sources is clear, this survey technique may or may not turn out to be a valuable tool in combatting fake news. Auros, long ago, understood the trust problem for knowledge in the workplace, and has been successfully resolving the trust issue, without having to rely on surveys in the workplace.
Facebook’s Issue Isn’t Much Different Than What’s in the Workplace
Auros claims that the dilemma Facebook is dealing with, isn’t much different than what the employees in the workplace feel. The issue in the workplace is of trust and changing truths. Methods, routines, experience, and heuristics (knowledge) within an organization are constantly changing. However artifacts and documents that transfer this knowledge from employee to employee are never in sync with enterprise learning. Consequently, employees need to decide ‘what to trust’.
A Trusted Solution for Knowledge Management
Auros solves this problem, not by surveying, but by using an analytic technique called knowledge ‘Vitality’. Auros gives stored knowledge a vitality score, which is a statistical measure of the confidence of quality or health of the knowledge. It’s calculated based on status, how it’s used, how often it’s updated or used, and how well it’s validated with others. The vitality of the knowledge is used to determine when and where that knowledge should be provisioned to the user.
Outcomes
Auros customers claim to save a vast amount of time using the Auros system as their trusted source for knowledge management solutions. The need to look through documents and sift through trusted, untrusted, useful, un-useful alike is refined to the combination of trusted and useful yielding gains in efficiency and capability.
